When coming up to Truckee or North Lake Tahoe to ski, many people don’t realize that the majority of the major ski results on the north side of the lake are in and around the town of Truckee.

Northstar at Tahoe
Northstar at Tahoe is a large resort with many trails, lots of classes and offers vacationeers a one stop vacation. If you want to walk to your ski hill, you will want to rent a condo in the Village at Northstar. You can read more about the resort at www.northstarattahoe.com.
Squaw Valley
Squaw Valley is another popular large resort in the Truckee area. The resort also has a village at the base of the ski hill where you can walk to the ski lifts. Tahoe Donner
The Tahoe Donner ski hill is small and great for beginners, someone who just wants to get in a few runs or kids learning to ski. It offers great discounts to locals and also has a top rated cross country ski center. Visit http://skitahoedonner.com/home to learn more.
Alpine Meadows

If you are driving up from the bay area of Sacramento, Boreal Mountain Resort is the first ski hill you see as you crest the summit. Many people come up and ski there for the day but they also have places to stay near the hill. You can read more about Boreal at www.rideboreal.com.
Donner Ski Ranch
