TRUCKEE HOTELS
There are several hotels in the Truckee area where you can stay on your vacation, including Hampton Inn & Suites, The Inn at Truckee, The Cedar House Sport Hotel, The Ritz Carlton Highlands (inside Northstar), Hyatt Residence Club (inside Northstar), Truckee Donner Lodge, Truckee Hotel (right downtown, bathrooms are shared)
TRUCKEE VACATION RENTALS
You can also rent homes in Truckee. This is very common because of all the second homes in the Truckee area that are owned by people who live (primarily) in the Bay Area. You can go to VRBO.com to find vacation rentals by owner. There are several companies that manage vacation home rentals and you can also go to North Star Vacation Rentals to find vacation homes and luxury condos in Northstar, primarily Northstar Village Vacation Rentals, which are right in the village.
STAY IN RENO
Another option is to stay in Reno, Nevada, which is about a thirty minute drive to Truckee or Tahoe. If you are wanting to gamble or would prefer to stay in a large hotel/casino but still visit the Truckee/Tahoe area, you could stay in Reno or you could stay in Incline Village on the Lake (the only large hotel there is the Hyatt in Incline).
